Of Noose and Halo

nooseghostlyEvery night,
Under pale moon light,
Beneath twinkling stars,
I beg the gods to take your memory from me.

But each day
I see your face.
In every looking glass,
In every reflective surface,
I see you.

That halo you hold up
Is a noose around my neck.
The scars on my soul
Mark every sin,
Every crime,
Every wicked act,
You are guilty of.

But souls are unseen,
And so those who sing your praise
Stop up their ears.
Refuse to acknowledge the pain.
Dismiss all evidence
Which is not physical.
Enabling your role as victim.

And I,
Am forced to the shadows.
Left to tend the garden
Of these open wounds.
Gathering maggots,
Throwing them to the wind,
Hoping they never take root.

When Judgement comes
To lay her hands upon you,
And take up your mortal mantle,
May you remember me in flames.
May you never forget,
As I have never forgotten.

About St Basil Z Fish

Curator of the strange and incredibly awkward. A rambling writer with the misguided notion he has something to say. His only redeeming qualities are his wife and children.
